Six Gunshots Shatter the Quiet in Cloverdale as Residents Wake in Fear

A Quiet Morning Takes a Sudden Turn

An early morning shooting in Surrey’s Cloverdale neighbourhood has left residents shaken after gunfire erupted near 60 Avenue and 177 Street on Wednesday.

The incident happened at about 3:52 a.m., when Surrey Police Service officers responded to reports of shots fired in the area. Police said two people were targeted during the incident, and one adult man was struck. He suffered minor injuries that did not require medical treatment.

Although no serious injuries were reported, the shooting has raised concerns among people who live close to the scene. Several residents said the sound of gunfire woke them from their sleep and left them worried about what had happened outside their homes.

Six Shots Heard Before Dawn

For one Cloverdale resident, the incident began with a series of loud noises that immediately sounded like gunfire.

“I heard boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom,” resident Kim said.

Kim said she recognized the sound as gunfire but did not initially realize how close the shooting had taken place.

The early hour added to the shock. Many people in the neighbourhood were asleep when the shooting occurred, turning what would normally be a quiet part of the morning into a sudden and frightening scene.

Police arrived after receiving reports of the shooting, but the suspects had already left the area.

Investigators are now working to determine what led to the incident and identify those responsible.

Bullets Hit Parked Vehicles

The shooting also caused property damage in the neighbourhood.

Police reported that bullets struck two parked vehicles in the area. One vehicle sustained damage to its roof and hood.

For vehicle owner Margrite, discovering that her recently purchased car had been hit added another layer of shock.

“When they told me that my car had been shot, it really rattled me,” she said.

Margrite said she had purchased the vehicle in September and had driven fewer than 4,000 kilometres.

“I actually just bought it in September. So, it’s 2025. I don’t even have 4,000 kilometres on it.

The damage highlights how a shooting can affect people who were not directly involved. Residents may find themselves dealing with damaged property, police activity, and concerns about whether similar incidents could happen again.

Police Call It a Targeted Shooting

The Surrey Police Service Major Crime Section has taken over the investigation.

As investigators worked to determine what happened before, during, and after the shooting, forensic officers were also at the scene processing evidence.

The police suspect that the incident was intentional. At this stage, officers also said they do not believe it was connected to extortion.

“We do believe that it is an isolated incident, not extortion-related at this time, but I can’t go into more details as to exactly the reason for the shooting,” Surrey Police Service spokesperson Sgt. Ali Gailus said.

That assessment may provide some context for residents, but investigators have not publicly disclosed a motive or explained why the individuals were targeted.

Police have released no details about the suspects beyond confirming that they fled before officers arrived.

Cloverdale Families Worried About Safety

The shooting has prompted some residents to question how secure they feel in their own neighbourhoods.

Jamille, who said she has lived in the area for nearly a decade, described the incident as frightening, particularly for families with children.

“We are so scared because we have many kids,” Jamille said. “We’re thinking that this neighbourhood is not safe.”

For residents who have spent years living in the community, a violent incident close to home can change how they view their surroundings.

The fact that the shooting occurred in the early morning has also raised concerns among people who may normally consider the neighbourhood quiet during those hours.

Jamille said she still likes the area and hopes authorities will increase police patrols.

“We were considering moving, but we like the area, so we’re hoping that more security will be patrolling,” she said.

Investigation Continues

Investigators now face the task of piecing together the events surrounding the shooting.

Evidence collected at the scene could help police establish where the shots came from, identify the people involved, and determine how the suspects escaped.

CCTV footage and dashcam recordings may also play an important role. Police are asking anyone who was in the area around the time of the shooting to check whether their cameras captured anything unusual.

Residents with security cameras may have recorded vehicles, people, or other activity that could assist investigators.

Even footage that appears unrelated at first could potentially help establish a timeline.

Police Ask Public for Information

The Surrey Police Service is asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact investigators.

People who witnessed the incident, heard the gunfire, saw suspicious activity, or have relevant CCTV or dashcam footage are being asked to contact police at 604-599-0502.

Callers should quote file number 26-85268 (SP) when contacting investigators.

As the investigation continues, police are expected to review evidence collected from the scene and information provided by members of the public.

The shooting has not caused serious physical injuries, but its effects have reverberated throughout the surrounding community. Damaged vehicles, disrupted sleep, and concerns from families have left residents looking for answers.

For now, police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting while residents in Cloverdale wait for more information about what happened in the early morning hours.

Anyone with relevant footage or information is encouraged to contact the Surrey Police Service and provide investigators with details that could help move the case forward.
